Earth Safe Finishes produces a variety of products for fine art applications, craft applications, home decor/DIY, and marine use.  At this exhibit, youth gave a shot at their artistic ability and painted a canvas with Earth Safe Finish’s VOC (volatile organic compounds) free paint.  The youth not only learned about the harmful effects of VOCs, but also the toxic ingredients hidden in conventional paint products.

Strauss Family Creamery was just one of the many vendors whom, at the SF Green Festival during the weekend of November 14-15, showcased their variety of ecologically-sound consumables. While embarking on the ESLI Youth Unity Challenge himself, our own Youth Advisory Board member Paul had the chance to get the inside scoop on exactly what this company was about. Started in 1941 by two immigrant farmers and 23 cows, Strauss Family Creamery has been sustainably producing their line of organic yogurts, butters, ice creams, and more with their now accumulation of 270 cows. All their bovine ingest the organic grains over which they graze, to ultimately generate the pasteurized milk which provides the base for all of the company’s products. In this way, the Strauss Family Creamery reminds us of the good ole’ days of the 1950’s when we could not be skeptics about the natural means used to manufacture our milk.
